This is the home page for Caleb George. I'm a Seattle based software engineer and musician with too many hobbies and never enough time. I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2019 with a BS in Computer and Information Science.
This site has had a few versions. The last version of the site was based on Django, Wagtail, PostreSQL, Tailwind, and ran on the Google Application Platform (GAP) on Google Cloud. The current version of the site, as you can see, is a static page HTML page hosted on S3, and served by AWS Cloudfront. Why?
A static page is much simpler to maintain. I made my Django site in part to learn, and in part to showcase that I can. Once it was setup, I had other priorities in life, so I rarely wrote on it or maintained it. Overtime, dependencies and infrastructure aged. In 2026 I revisted my site and ran into the nightmare of updating dependencies and ensuring the tech stack still worked. I took that as a chance to rethink what I even have this site for, and ultimately this place is a fancy business card and a way to share some of my life with people. I don't need a full CMS or fancy features for something I update maybe once a year. For showing off, I can point to my actual work experience. For this? Old boring technology is simple and easy.
